Description
The Todo cheese and nutmeg grater, in steel and wood, was designed by Richard Sapper for Alessi in 2004. This famous designer has created some of the most innovative objects for the Italian publisher. For this kitchen grater, he drew on his own experience of grating cheese for the whole family. Thanks to the exceptional cutting action of its long, frustoconical body, Todo can grate the amount of cheese needed for a single plate in a single pass. It's an excellent example of an object to be displayed on the table or in the kitchen, with a precise and innovative functionality that transforms one of the most boring and unrewarding culinary operations into a playful gesture, a beautiful object to put on every table.
In 1921, Giovanni Alessi founded the Italian company Alessi. Since 1929, the company has focussed on producing nickel- or silver-plated copper tableware. When Carlo Alessi, Giovanni's son, was appointed design director in 1935, handcrafting methods were replaced by industrial manufacturing. In 1955, the company began collaborating with world-renowned architects and designers such as Richard Sapper, Ettore Sottsass, and later, Philippe Starck and Marcel Wanders. Alessi makes design accessible by focussing on useful, humorous and visually appealing home accessories. Most of its products have become design classics that are sold and exhibited around the world.
