Description

The iconic Pacha armchairwas designed by Pierre Paulin in 1975 and is now reissued by Gubi. Pierre Paulin is one of the greatest exponents of French design and has designed some of the most famous armchairs in contemporary design, which are exhibited in the most prestigious museums. The aesthetic of the Pacha armchair by Gubi is inspired by the shape of clouds. Pierre Paulin imagined a new form of design, replacing post-war austerity with a new, much more vigorous approach. The Pacha armchairby Gubi thus perfectly illustrates the mutation of 60s design, moving towards a less rigid, more festive and relaxed aesthetic. Pierre Paulin has succeeded in giving real elegance to the rounded, whimsical shapes ofthe Pacha armchairby Gubi by finding the perfect proportions. The lines of the chair's stitching add to its elegance. The low, rounded foam seat is slightly raised at the base, where the stitching accentuates the silhouette. The base, which lacks the classic four-legged legs, gives this Pacha armchair a very contemporary look that will bring a breath of modernity to any living room or bedroom. Pierre Paulin was also one of the first to do away with the legs of armchairs, introducing a new way of life in which people sit closer to the ground. The result is a modern and durable armchair that offers comfort and warmth. For the Pacha armchair, Pierre Paulin wanted to place great importance on the notion of comfort. Indeed, the Pacha armchair by Gubi is the result of lengthy research into the notion of modern comfort. This work is perfectly in tune with the desire for comfort in the bodies of the 60s. Its all-cotton padding makes the Pacha armchair very pleasant to the touch thanks to its softness, making it extremely comfortable. Pacha is a unique model that brings life and character to every style of interior. Gubi has expanded the collection by adding the Pacha armchair with armrests, the Two to five-seater Pacha sofa. The Pacha armchair is upholstered in a superb wool and viscose bouclé fabric, inspired by precious astrakhan furs, with a velvety feel, comfortable and thick. Pacha is also available in a wide range of upholstery fabrics with a swivel base in original pearl gold and matt black.

Pierre PAULIN

Born in 1927 in Paris, Pierre Paulin acquired his passion for design from his great-uncle Freddy Stoll, a sculptor, and his uncle Georges Paulin, a car designer and inventor of the convertible coupé cabriolet, based on a 1927 model registration, manufactured by Peugeot. Pierre Paulin studied at the Camondo School and began his career in the 1950s, noted for his creations and installations, he made all the furniture for F. Mitterrand's official office. Pierre Paulin brought modernity to the Elysée Palace in 1972 for President Georges Pompidou and renovated the dining room for Jacques Chirac. At the same time, Pierre Paulin set up ADSA with two partners, and worked on industrial projects, corporate images for Air France for example, and designed the Gare de Lyon among other projects. His creations can be found in many museums around the world, and several exhibitions have been devoted to him. At the same time, Pierre Paulin collaborates with design brands such as Magis, for whom he creates chairs and storage elements with the Elysée bookcase, and with the Artifort brand, for whom he creates most of their iconic pieces.
