Designer Eileen Gray didn't want luxurious furniture for her house in Castellar, located on the road between Menton and the Alps. She preferred versatile products for everyday use. With the
table basse design Menton, Eileen Gray achieved one of her most ingenious creations. By simply tilting the top, the table becomes either a high or low table. In her home, Gray used Menton in the high position as a dining table and in the low position as an occasional table on the terrace. She also placed one in the guest room to be used as a bedside table. The linoleum-covered top, black on one side and grey on the other, is fixed on a chrome-plated steel frame.
