Designed in 1954 by the famous French master glassmaker and decorator Max Ingrand, this lamp was originally named 1853 and later Fontana, in tribute to the company Fontana Arte, of which the master glassmaker was artistic director for a decade. For design lovers and connoisseurs of the brand's history, 1853 remains something of a nickname: the first symbol of the timeless design object, still today a Fontana Arte bestseller and design icon, Fontana is the table lamp par excellence. The special feature of Fontana is its multiple light sources: both the base and the shade contain one or more. The larger version also allows indirect lighting, with an additional source that projects an upwards beam of indirect light. Different light sources can be used to meet different lighting needs: from a soft, relaxing glow to an intense beam of light for reading, passing by suggestive mood lighting.
