The
Shogun table lamp is a creation by architect-designer Mario Botta for
Artemide. Its powerful shape gives it a strong presence, even when switched off. Mario Botta himself said, "
Shogun is a person. It has a head, a body, feet and a navel". The structure is in black and white painted metal and the lamp has two adjustable diffusers in painted perforated sheet steel. Its light emission is diffused, and the superposition and orientation of the diffusers create a play of light and shadow. Published by
Artemide, the
table lamp is now part of the collection of the Metropolitan Museum in NYC.
Shogun is ideal on a desk, or in a bedroom on the bedside table for example, with its striped lines giving this lamp all its character.
