GamFratesi designed the
Epic table for
Gubi as a sculptural piece of furniture inspired by Greek columns and Roman architecture and named after the epic poems of antiquity. Made in Italy from travertine stone, the monolithic shape emphasises the stone's material characteristics, the natural beauty of its veins and the vibrant texture of its unique patina — in which a new detail can be discovered with each use. Inspired by historic examples of travertine construction such as the Colosseum and St Peter's Basilica in Rome, and by the revival of the material in southern Europe in the 1970s, the
Epic table combines two simple geometric shapes, the circle and the hexagon, with references to the classical Greek column. Stone options in Neutral White, Vibrant Grey or Burnt Red colour each create a focal point of a different intensity, bringing personality to a home and naturalness to public spaces.
