Description

Yumi means bow in Japanese. Today, this simple form is reinterpreted by Shigeru Ban for Fontana Arte. Its absolute harmony is destined to become a new universal classic. Yumi is both delicate and strong: an essential sign that responds to a resistant and light structure. 170 LEDs are discreetly embedded in the lamp structure, minimizing the light's footprint and further reinforcing the continuous line of the arc design. The choice of high temperature resistant materials means that the wire is completely concealed inside the stem during the production process. The Yumi floor lamp diffuses a warm light downwards, which is ideal for creating an intimate atmosphere. It adds character to a variety of interiors with its distinct and subtle personality.

Shigeru BAN

A graduate of Cooper Union, Shigeru Ban began working for Arata Isozaki & Associates in 1982. In 1985, he founded Shigeru Ban Architects and became a consultant to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in 1995. In the same year, he set up the NGO Voluntary Architects' Network (VAN) to support disaster relief. The works selected include the Nicolas G. Hayek Centre, the Centre Pompidou-Metz and the Oita Prefecture...

FONTANA ARTE

Luigi Fontana was founded in Milan in 1881 and specialised in the production of glass panels for the construction industry. In 1931, the FontanaArte brand was born and achieved instant success, with the 0024 pendant light by Gio Ponti, who was artistic director of FontanaArte at the time. The Bilia table lamp followed with its timeless design thanks to the perfect balance of its dimensions and the understated elegance of the non-reflective materials used. FontanaArte installed a new oven - the only one in Italy - designed to produce glass panels of all curvatures, in order to inject new momentum into the production of prestigious furnishings.
