Nuovo Milano cutlery is a classic in tableware design, created by the famous Ettore Sottsass in collaboration with Italian chef Alberto Gozzi. The designer wanted the cutlery to be polished like a pebble in the sea. Winner of the XVI Compas d'Or, the service is produced by the Italian brand Alessi, which offers the collection in several sets: a service for 6 people comprising table spoons, forks, knives, coffee spoons and cake forks, a service for 1 person comprising a table spoon, a fork, a knife and a coffee spoon: a special dessert service is also available with a tart scoop and 6 cake forks. A timeless, elegant collection for all design tables.

Born in Innsbruck, Austria, in 1917, he studied architecture at the Turin Polytechnic, graduating in 1939. Ettore Sottsass is considered to be one of the most influential designers of the 20th century. He began his career as an architect in his father's firm, and together they set about rebuilding their country after the war. Generally building only social housing, Ettore Sottsass turned to design, failing to realise his ambitions in architecture, and decided to open his own agency in Milan in 1947. A master of colour and lighting effects, he combines architecture and design. During his career, Sottsass collaborated with many designers, including George Nelson in New York and Olivetti in Italy. He creates furniture and lighting for Artemide and table accessories for Alessi. With the Callimaco floor lamp, Ettore Sottsass created one of the great classics of design.

ALESSI
In 1921, Giovanni Alessi founded the Italian company Alessi. Since 1929, the company has focussed on producing nickel- or silver-plated copper tableware. When Carlo Alessi, Giovanni's son, was appointed design director in 1935, handcrafting methods were replaced by industrial manufacturing. In 1955, the company began collaborating with world-renowned architects and designers such as Richard Sapper, Ettore Sottsass, and later, Philippe Starck and Marcel Wanders. Alessi makes design accessible by focussing on useful, humorous and visually appealing home accessories. Most of its products have become design classics that are sold and exhibited around the world.
