Description

The famous Componibili, produced for over 50 years, is now available in a new soft touch effect material: bioplastic. Componibili is an icon of the Kartell brand, establishing itself from 1968 onwards as a true design classic. This piece of furniture can be used in any room in the house, as well as outdoors. Kartell is launching a veritable green revolution by presenting the 1st piece of furniture made from bioplastic, Componibili Bio. This plastic is made from renewable raw materials which, with the addition of micro-organisms, form a plastic-like material. The Componibili Bio is therefore a piece of furniture made from 100% natural and 100% biodegradable materials. What's more, bio-plastics have the same thermomechanical properties as traditional plastics. Many years of research are behind this material, used in the Componibili Bio, highly technological product of the new ecological chemistry. Kartell, always attentive to the ecological processes of sustainable development for the manufacture of certified 100% recyclable products, continues its research in the world of bio and today results in the creation of an ecological and biodegradable material, capable of satisfying both the functional and structural requirements of a design product. This revolutionary new material is the future in terms of ecology and the environment. Experimenting with new technologies, through innovation in the use of plastics, has always been one of Kartell's most important focuses. Indeed, Kartell president Claudio Luti explains, "Research into bioplastics joins our path of innovation and is part of the 'Kartell loves the planet' project aimed at improving best practice in sustainable development." I'm already looking forward to exploring the future and, above all, discovering technologies that are not only new, but completely different from the products we've produced to date. The Componibili Bio is as functional as the original version, designed to meet a variety of use requirements and to find a place in every room of the house.

Anna CASTELLI FERRIERI

Born in Milan in 1920, Anna Castelli Ferrieri was one of the first women to graduate in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic Institute in 1943. In 1949, together with her husband Giulio Castelli, she founded the Kartell studio, which has become one of Italy's leading furniture manufacturers. An undisputed follower of Le Corbusier and the rationalism of Franco Albini, whom she called "her master", she draws inspiration from their respective styles, proposing pieces of simple design reduced to their primary function. She took part in the work of the International Congress of Modern Architecture (CIAM), and in 1950 became editor-in-chief of the magazine Casabella and correspondent for the English magazine Architectural Design in Italy. Anna Ferrieri, both architect and designer, is part of a generation of great names in Italian design, following in the footsteps of Ettore Sottsass and Gae Aulenti. She also has a career as a teacher at the Domus Academy for Masters in Design classes. Anna Castelli Ferrieri has been awarded the prestigious "Compasso de Oro" on three occasions (1979, 1984 and 1987). His most popular products are the Componibili storage units, and several of his creations are included in the permanent collections of museums around the world, including MoMa in New York.
