Description

These modular storage units, known as Componibili, created by Anna Castelli Ferrieri in 1968, have been designed to meet a variety of use requirements and so find their place in every room of the house: the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen or living room. Well thought-out, the modular elements Componibili meet a legitimate need for storage and adapt to any use. The key idea is the elementary but solid superposition of the various Componibili blocks, which, by simply fitting together, make up very practical storage units. This moulded plastic cylinder, with its sober, functional lines, symbolises the breakthrough in design that took place in the 1960s. Componibili was soon to enjoy growing success thanks to its extreme functionality. Democratic, accessible and bold, Componibili responds fully to the needs of a new society taking shape. Componibili by Kartell therefore meets a variety of use requirements, and is available in seven different colours. An iconic object from Kartell, Componibili has been making its mark ever since its debut at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1927. Flexible and functional, Componibili has been produced for over thirty years and has received multiple accolades for the value and innovation of the project. The Componibilis are exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Thanks to Kartell, plastic has become precious, noble and refined.

Anna CASTELLI FERRIERI

Born in Milan in 1920, Anna Castelli Ferrieri was one of the first women to graduate in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic Institute in 1943. In 1949, together with her husband Giulio Castelli, she founded the Kartell studio, which has become one of Italy's leading furniture manufacturers. An undisputed follower of Le Corbusier and the rationalism of Franco Albini, whom she called "her master", she draws inspiration from their respective styles, proposing pieces of simple design reduced to their primary function. She took part in the work of the International Congress of Modern Architecture (CIAM), and in 1950 became editor-in-chief of the magazine Casabella and correspondent for the English magazine Architectural Design in Italy. Anna Ferrieri, both architect and designer, is part of a generation of great names in Italian design, following in the footsteps of Ettore Sottsass and Gae Aulenti. She also has a career as a teacher at the Domus Academy for Masters in Design classes. Anna Castelli Ferrieri has been awarded the prestigious "Compasso de Oro" on three occasions (1979, 1984 and 1987). His most popular products are the Componibili storage units, and several of his creations are included in the permanent collections of museums around the world, including MoMa in New York.
