For the Beetle collection, Denmark's Stine Gam and Italy's Enrico Fratesti were inspired by the beetle, studying the insect's anatomy, aesthetics and movement. TheBeetle chair met its public on its introduction in 2013 and has since become Gubi's biggest commercial success. Thus, the collection reinterprets the characteristic elements of the beetle: its shape, joints, the rigid appearance on the outside and the softness on the inside. The Bettle chair is a blend of classic Italian design and Scandinavian traditions. The studio's creations often play with the heritage of classic Danish design, but also with nature and more particularly the world of insects, since the Beetle was inspired by the shell of beetles. The seat and backrest are made of moulded plywood, covered with fabric and padded for optimum comfort. The slightly tapered legs are made of black epoxy-coated steel or brass. Gubi offers a chair whose elegant seat shape is highlighted by leather piping. GamFratesi studio's creations embody the union of Italian design with Danish sobriety. Contrasts are often the key to the inspiration of this duo who work with a purely Scandinavian artisanal approach, simple and functional, but always with a strong concept and story, integrated in each of their creations.
