Created in the 1950s by designer
Mathieu Matégot, the
mobilier Outdoor Tropique collection captures the timeless elegance and exotic luxury of outdoor living on the French Riviera in the mid-20th century. More than 50 years on,
Gubi pays tribute to Mathieu Matégot with the reissue of one of his most famous collections. Developed shortly after his return from the Second World War,
Tropique was one of his key collections that helped
Mathieu Matégot establish his reputation as a designer. Out of production for decades, the
Tropique collection is reborn for the 21st century, giving a new generation the chance to live "la dolce vita" as imagined by Mathieu Matégot. Combining material simplicity with a decadent aesthetic, the Tropique collection includes two small dining chairs and a table. The structure of each piece is made from stainless steel tubing, with a distinctive curve at the legs that unites the collection into a coherent whole.
For the Tropique chairs, the seat and back are now made from a durable and flexible outdoor fabric. Suspended like a hammock from the frame, the seat is enveloping and easy to remove. The backrest is padded with foam and a separate cushion provides optimum comfort for the seat. The petit fauteuil Tropique is available with or without fringes on the armrests.
