Description

Iconic, the Chieftain armchair is one of Finn Juhl's masterpieces, representing the pinnacle of his career as a designer. When it was presented in 1949, the armchair marked a revival in the tradition of Danish furniture. Today, he is regarded as one of the most important representatives of the Danish Modern movement in the United States in the 1950s. For this reason, Finn Juhl is often regarded as one of the fathers of modern Danish design. Inspired by modern art and foreign cultures, the Chieftain armchair, with its organic forms, breaks free from traditional Danish design and strict functionalism in both form, execution and materials. Refined and timeless, the Chieftain armchair is available in walnut or oak and upholstered in high-quality leather.

Since 2001, House of Finn Juhl has held the exclusive rights to bring the sculptural creations of designer Finn Juhl back to life. The Finn Juhl collection consists of over 40 classic masterpieces, all crafted with the utmost respect for the original heritage and with strict quality standards. The goal of House of Finn Juhl is to reintroduce the iconic Finn Juhl furniture in a modern context while staying true to the designer's original drawings. Even today, the production of Finn Juhl furniture is located in the town of Ringkøbing, on the west coast of Denmark. Upholstered furniture, such as the Pelican chair, is hand-stitched in the same tradition as originally intended.
