Published by Normann Copenhagen, Bit is a plural and sculptural piece of furniture that can have multiple functions in an interior. You can use Bit, for example, as a pedestal for a beautiful floral decoration, as a side table for a lamp or as a stool for an extra guest. To design the multifunctional Bit, designer Simon Legald was inspired by immutable forms such as monoliths and pillars. The rigour of its shape is broken up by its characteristic, pixelated surface thanks to the small pieces of 100% recycled plastic from industrial and household sources. A special method in which plastic fragments are heated to their melting point of 120 degrees, enabling the material to be recycled and remelted a large number of times without altering its properties. The result is a singular depth and composition that makes each Bit table unique. Available in a range of shapes and colours, Bit adds personality to any interior design scheme. The tabouret Bit withstands temperatures ranging from -10 to 50°C and will find its place indoors as well as outdoors.
A graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2012, Simon Legald stands out for his creations that blend tradition and contemporary spirit. Furniture publisher Normann Copenhagen spotted him before he finished his studies, and their collaboration began in 2011 with the production of the Sumo footstool. The young Danish designer works on both small and large-scale projects, focusing on functionality. "In my designs, I try not to add unnecessary detail," he explains. His designs, now described as "new classics", combine simplicity and functionality. One of the collection's star products is the Ikono suspension, whose pure lines are inspired by Poul Henningsen's famous PH5 suspension. For Simon Legald, simplicity is synonymous with honesty and reveals the true identity of objects, so they need no further explanation. The aesthetics speak for themselves. Industry and crafts also play an important role in production. This combination offers a unique result. The sobriety that emanates from these objects through their curves and soft colours echoes the codes of Scandinavian design known until now, but with an extra touch of modernity.
