Published by DK3, the iconic Royal System shelving system was designed in 1948 by Danish designer and manufacturer Poul Cadovius. It's one of the world's first wall-mounted furniture systems, created on the innovative principle of moving furniture from the floor to the walls. Poul Cadovius saw a challenge in traditional heavy furniture, and wanted to add more space and light to the furniture.
Royal System consists of wooden wall rails, shelves with brass or stainless steel hangers and various cabinets. The system can be customised in many individual combinations - either as a modern office system or as a bookcase with different cabinets.
Already in the 1960s, Royal System was known for its versatile design and was dubbed the shelving system offering "up to 16 million possible combinations".
Since then Royal System is still regarded as one of the greatest success stories in Danish furniture history, and so it was with pride and modesty that the DK3 brand was able to relaunch it in 2010. Although 75 years have passed since the launch of Royal System, the shelving system remains a timeless classic, with a flexible, space-saving design that offers plenty of scope for modern, personal expression.
