First launched in 1961 and reissued today by Gubi, the LampModel 597 by Italian virtuoso Gianfranco Frattini is the piece that made him a household name as a lighting designer.
The unique, playful shape of the Lamp Model 597 perfectly encapsulates Frattini's extraordinary approach to the aesthetics of light. Nylon fringes were inspired both by the world of fashion and by the entrance curtains commonly found in Italian bars and grocery shops in the late 1950s. Thanks to the row of side bulbs, Model 597 emits a 360° play of indirect light, softened by the fringes to create a rich ambient glow, while the reflective aluminium cover adds warmth to the up-lighting.
The Gubi Model 597 lamp is light on expression, but serious about functionality - bringing sophistication, pleasure and character to interiors without resorting to superfluous decorative flourishes.
