Designed by Arne Jacobsen and published by
Louis Poulsen in 1960 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen (Radisson Blu), the
AJ luminaires were originally part of the complete design concept created for the Hotel. Arne Jacobsen not only drew up the plans for the hotel, but also imagined every detail of its interior design. Many of the products designed for this occasion are now design icons, such as the Egg and Swan armchairs. The
applique AJ is characterised by the distinctive asymmetrical shape of its adjustable shade. It consists of a round base, a tubular base and a truncated conical diffuser. The inside of the shade is painted white to make the light more comfortable. The adjustable diffuser and interior of the
applique AJ Wall is painted white, to make the light softer and more comfortable. This wall light combines pure, timeless design with excellent lighting qualities. Now seen as an icon of Scandinavian design, it is synonymous with elegance and lightness. The
applique AJ emits an asymmetrical, direct and powerful light, directed downwards. The AJ
lamps have also achieved worldwide renown. The
AJ luminaires by
Louis Poulsen remain over time modern classics in the field of
design luminaires.
